fosters-byerlyGiven the events in Orlando last weekend, I have to applaud Freeform’s The Fosters for keeping on track with it’s admittedly intense season premiere. The main similarity in the episode is the threat of gun violence this time in the high school on the show where the kids go to school and one of their foster Moms (Lena, played by Sherri Saum) is a Principal. Of course, Stef (Teri Polo) is a cop and is also on the scene when the threat is discovered. You’ll also see what a ‘CODE BLUE’ means and what locking down a school of any kind entails but you’ll also see how this unconventional family handles what happens.

I can tell you from having seen the episode that the subject matter is handled responsibly and is incredibly informative and important for everyone to see.

Thankfully, with the help of my Hollywood QCast host, Trish Bendix from AfterEllen.com, we talked to Polo about the episode and more on our latest podcast (download/subscribe for free right here). I also was on set to talk with stars Hayden Byerly, Maia Mitchell and Noah Centineo about what we’ll see in the premiere and the rest of the season with their respective characters. (I also talked to Sherri Saum for AfterEllen so check there for that video interview!)

First, Hayden Byerly talks how Jude thinks of Connor in tonight’s episode as well as what everyone is saying about Jude & Taylor! (Is Jude still gay or…?)

Next, Maia Mitchell talks what she learned from shooting the season premiere and watch her laugh when she talks some smack about her on-screen brother, Hayden.

Noah Centineo has some ideas of what he’d like to see Jesus have to deal with on the show.

The Fosters airs Mondays at 8pm on Freeform.
